Wedding cake toppers didn’t used to be the highlight of a wedding that they are today. More and more they are becoming as important as the wedding cake itself and is one of the areas that the wedding gifts market is quickly cottoning on to.
Once over, a wedding cake topper just used to be in the form of a generic bride and groom couple. Now, though a bride and groom wedding cake topper can be custom made to your specifications which really makes the wedding cake even more unique and extra special. Cake toppers that are hand crafted from clay or sugar paste can be personalised to look like copies of the newly married couple even right down to their wedding day outfits. Grooms can be shown wearing kilts, military uniforms or their favourite football team kit! Brides can be made wearing their wedding dresses, veils and tiaras and even down to hair styles and the type and colour of flowers used in their bridal bouquet. They can even be themed around the time of year that they are getting married such as Christmas or Valentine´s Day or if it is a beach wedding in some far flung exotic location. Family members and beloved pets can be added for that really special memento.
Many of the more popular cake toppers seem to be funny and humourous to reflect the bride and groom´s personalities. Once the wedding cake is long gone a wedding cake topper can be kept as a very special keepsake and reminder of one of the most special days a couple will ever have.
A new trend that is only just being picked up in the UK in 2010 is for monogram wedding cake toppers. This type of cake decoration is believed to be coming across from the USA and very few British and European retailers seem to have them available yet although one of my favourite gift retailers is at the forefront for this again! They are usually crafted from brushed steel or acrylic and all of the letters of the alphabet and some numbers are available. Monogrammed cake toppers usually include the initials of the bride and groom i.e. ´M & P´. What makes them really special though and what I believe is driving their popularity is that they are hand decorated with swarovski crystals in a choice of colours to match your wedding theme. These crystal cake toppers really do create the ´wow´ factor sat atop your wedding cake!
There are wedding cake toppers to suit every taste and every budget and this looks set to be one wedding trend that is set to have some longevity and continue to grow.
