This was supplemented in 2004 with the addition of a 13.5 megawatt wind farm in Snugborough, Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan. The energy generated is fed into the national grid. The Group is in the planning stages of new developments in this field. These are set to include 300 million, 450 megawatt gas turbine combined cycle in the county of Louth, has been approved and an accelerated procedure by An Bord Pleanala under the Strategic Plan Infrastructure Bill states. It will be one of the highest power stations ever built in Ireland and will supply up to 8% of peak demand in Ireland and is expected to coming on line in 2010 despite the fall. In 1998, Quinn Group entered the glass container market with the establishment QUINN glass, which makes glass containers for food and beverage industries, with operations in Ireland and the United Kingdom. The first plant went into production in late 1998, the production of a complete range of flint, green and amber containers. The plant is based in Derrylin and employs more than 370 staff with an annual production capacity of 720 million containers. The plant has five bottling lines capable of a total of 400 bottles of wine, or 1,000 bottles of beer a minute. Vista manufacturing and bottling on the same site can reduce costs and keep prices competitive. By providing packaging services, there is potential for glass makers to win more business as a plant overflow in times of high demand, and is like a contract packaging operation the greatest benefits from the bottling lines are likely to be had. However, the plant was constructed without proper planning permission, and on April 8, 2009, the Supreme Court ruled that the plant should be demolished.
